Cobain
A five-part music series about the immortality of Nirvana and the death of its frontman was created for Czech Radio Vltava in the spring of last year on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death.
The podcast's mission was to provide an insight into his personality in an attractive and complex manner. The Cobain series thus organically connects the topic of depression and mental turmoil with the motifs of a media spectacle and the transformation of the music industry, with the history of heroin and the phenomenon of 3rd wave feminism.
The original podcast by music journalist Pavel Klusák draws listeners into Cobain's story, from the musician´s teenage search for himself to suicide and posthumous mythologizing and monetization.
The documentary-journalistic form with dramatic elements allowed the author and his team to present a personality in a broad context, in whose music and charisma there is something timeless and universal. Pavel Klusák says: "The main reason for me to talk about the death and immortality of Kurt Cobain is the fact that people from different generations are still excited by Nirvana thirty years after its end. The conversations I had about Nirvana were always touched by something deep down. I spoke to teenagers who find Nirvana helps express their emotions. Many members of Generation X told me about their shock when the news of Kurt's death had been announced. Some remember exactly that it was while waiting for the next installment of Lynch's Twin Peaks, while others were struck by the dilemma of whether to return the ticket to the Prague concert - which never took place - or keep it as a souvenir."
